Red Bird + Audrey Restaurants

HOSPITALITY
East Nashville, TN | 2019-2020 | 0.59 acres

Located in up-and-coming McFerrin Park of East Nashville, Red Bird and Audrey Restaurants join the neighborhood of Folk and Redheaded Stranger. Chef Sean Brock seeks to incorporate his Appalachian heritage and interest in Japanese culture into these two new restaurants. In response, the landscape focuses on plants native to Nashville and also prevalent in Appalachia, as well as plants that provide a particular structural quality often found in Japanese style gardens. The main entry garden, an enclosed space filled with a lush mixture ferns, evergreens, and planting between monolithic pavers, greets guests from the main parking area. Upon entry from the sidewalk, guests may stroll through the front garden, a rock garden strategically planted with black pines and staghorn sumac, whose flower is a favorite ingredient of the chef. Along the perimeter of the property, two bioretention areas and a perimeter screen are filled with plants not only of Appalachian interest but also with edible features such as acorns, seeds, or fruits, a nod to the chef’s interest in utilizing somewhat uncommon parts of plants in his cuisine.
