Patagonia + Superica Block

RETAIL / URBAN DESIGN
Nashville, TN | 2019 | 0.65 acres

As it becomes increasingly established within Nashville, the Gulch is growing in multiple centers bisected by towers and other development. One of these pockets of commerce exists at the intersection of Overton, Mansion, and Magazine Streets. Within this block, Patagonia and Superica are recent additions that serve as a lively hub for the connectivity of the Gulch. Grasses and yucca against a palette of concrete and murals invite patrons of Patagonia. A bioretention garden in the parking area not only offers stormwater management but also creates a backdrop of canopy, foliage, and flowers that disguises the parking deck beyond. Improvements to Mansion Street accommodate pedestrians through the addition of sidewalk protected and enhanced by planting strips. The abandoned Magazine Street provides an opportunity for social gathering, green space, and circulation. Critical to this overall connectivity is a path between the Icon towers and Burger Republic. Together with a re-envisioned end of Magazine Street, this pedestrian way affords people a safe and efficient route from 11th Avenue to this disconnected portion of the Gulch.
