Forest Hills Residence
RESIDENTIAL
Nashville, TN | 2016-2019 | 0.97 acres
This midcentury modern home is perched on a wooded acre in Forest Hills. Foundation plantings that had become overgrown were replaced with new shrubs, grasses, and groundcovers to complement the contemporary architecture. Specimen trees, including Princeton Sentry Ginkgo and Tiger Eyes Sumac, serve as focal points to great the residents and their guests at the front entrance. Mixtures of broadleaf and needled evergreens at the foundation contrast in texture for year-round interest. The rear yard was re-graded to redirect water away from the house. A level lawn was established with a low retaining wall marking the back edge and, above, a bank of grasses and junipers (?) featuring four Chinese fringetrees at the rear woodland edge. The stone patio at the side of the house was rebuilt and enclosed on two sides by lush deciduous and evergreen native plantings, creating a garden view from the living space through gracious windows.
