Located to the West of downtown Nashville, this private residence overlooks Old Hickory Lake, and is situated within woodland. The project sought to retain as much woodland as possible, while balancing the client programs of recreation and new habitat creation. Planting upon the site sought to replace as much removed woodland as possible, focusing new tree plantings on the property lines to increase the privacy of the residence, but also to diversify the existing tree canopy. The riparian zone between the residence and the lake is to remain undisturbed. New mowed and gravel trails throughout the property connect the main residence to its sports court, and provide leisure paths through the extensive pollinator meadow. Newly planted meadow, previously a cleared lot, will provide much needed pollinator habitat, and will connect to the undisturbed riparian zone.
