Paradise Park
PARK
Thomasville, GA | 2023-present | 22 acres
Located in southern Georgia, Paradise Park is a turn of the century 22 acre city park sitting at the edge of Thomasville’s historic downtown core. The conceptual master plan reinvents the park as a dynamic public space honoring the parks history, providing modern amenities, and showcasing the native wiregrass and long leaf pine ecosystem unique to the red hills region. The plan incudes new play and leisure facilities, a renovation of the park’s historic bandstand, public pavilions, a lookout tower, and a grand central lawn to host cultural events and passive recreation. These park elements are connected by serpentine walking trails and refurbished historic carriage ways. A fire management regime will utilized to manage the 10 plus acre native savannah. The design also proposes a new wetland/pond to service the stormwater needs of the park and some of the surrounding parcels. The wetland will be planted with native species and will be leveraged as an educational tool and critical piece of stormwater infrastructure. Phase 1 Construction has been completed and includes installation of primary walking paths, the oval lawn, and removal of invasive and declining trees.
